It's funny how I care more about shoes being wet than myself getting wet. I'm a weirdo.
ANYWAYS
My top 5 books. Yes. Okay, let's get started.
So, the first book I'm going to recommend is "THE GRAVEYARD BOOK" by Neil Gaiman. This book is gorgeous. This book is about a boy named Nobody Owens, also known as Bod. He is a normal boy but he would be considered normal if he didn't live in a graveyard, being raised by ghosts and has a guardian who belongs to neither the world of living nor the dead. This is a children's book by the way. I thought this was an adult book because it looks like one but it's not. I shouldn't have judged the cover.
Anyways, the book was very creepy and at the same time, very satisfying. I liked the concept of the story and the writing is... wow. Neil Gaiman is a wonderful writer. I'm definitely going to be reading more of his books. Also, the illustrations in this book is gorgeous! I wish I could show them to you one by one because they are beautiful. So yeah, check this book out. I will leave pictures down below.
Next book is "THE LOVELY BONES" by Alice Sebold. This book is all about a girl named Susie Salmon and she was murdered when she was fourteen. While she's in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, she is watching life continue without her- her friends spreading rumors about her death, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her family unraveling. This book is wonderful. Definitely not a YA book though. I shed a tear or two while reading this. It was very well-written.
I didn't watch the movie of this because I was too afraid to watch it. I watched it for like, 10 minutes and then, I was done. I was thinking ahead of the movie. I saw the scenes rolling in my head because I read the book. I prefer the read movies than watch them. You know what I mean? Because I get a whole new movie inside my head and it's just me creating it. I love this book and you guys should definitely check it out! Photos will also be down below right after the blog.
Next book is "SARAH'S KEY" by Tatiana De Rosnay. This book is about a girl named Sarah Starzynski who was taken with her parents by the French Police as they go door-to-door to arrest Jewish families in the middle of the night. Sarah wanted to protect her brother so bad that she locked him up in a cupboard where they used to play and promised to come back when they are released. 60 years later, Sarah's story intertwines with Julia Jarmond's story. Julia is an American journalist investigating the roundup. In her research, Julia stumbles upon a tail of secrets that link to Sarah, and and to questions about romantic future.
I loved this book so much. I love books like this where one's story intertwines with another one's story. It fascinates me. So yeah, definitely go check this out.
Next book is "THIS BOY'S LIFE" by Tobias Wolff. This is also a movie with Robert De Niro and Ellen Barkin in it. (It's on the cover) I didn't finish this book though but it is a wonderful book. I think it's about an author named Toby Wolff and that's all I know. I read 20 pages far and I was just done. I don't enjoy memoirs that much but I'm still definitely going to recommend this to you.
The last book is "THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE MISSING FIGUREHEAD" by Diane Noble. I read this over the summer. It's about El Littlefield who runs The Butler Did It catering. It's her cover for her to solve mysteries in a small university town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. While catering her most important event yet, countless guests fall ill, a two-hundred-year-old relic is stolen and her best friend vanishes. All in the first hour.
I love thrilling books like this one because I have adventures going on in my head and it's fun. It reminds me of Sherlock Holmes even though I haven't read Sherlock Holmes yet. So yeah, those are my top 5 book recommendations and if you want to see more blog posts like this, follow my blog and be sure to share it to your friends and book-reading acquaintances.
